Apart from palladium, which sprinted to a 2% high and established its loftiest peak since February 2001, gold was positively comatose on Tuesday and ended roughly flat despite an action-packed day in terms of headlines. What should have stirred gold (but didn’t) was the firing of another North Korean intercontinental ballistic missile, this one arguably much more sophisticated than anything seen in the past in terms of range. Minutes after the North fired its missile, South Korea’s military sent one of their own, while President Trump said in taped remarks that the North Korean situation would be “handled” although how exactly was not made clear.
