We had an extremely quiet day as far as the gold market was concerned; prices finished essentially flat, while silver lost slight ground, although platinum and palladium both had better showings, rising by $11/ounce and $27/ounce, respectively. Action in gold even remained muted in after-hours trading despite reports of an ISIS-inspired terrorist attack in Paris that killed one policeman and wounded two others. The assailant was killed in the shooting and police are now looking for other accomplices. The incident comes as French voters prepare to go to the polls on Sunday whereby the far-right and far-left candidates have a chance of making it into next month’s run-off, although centrist candidate Emmanuel Macron is still shown to be in the lead.
