Gold finally broke out of its excruciatingly tight three-week trading range, which at times made us wonder whether the precious metal even had a pulse. On Friday, the market finally broke out, ending up roughly $17/ounce to finish at just under $1295/ounce. The significant rally lifted silver as well (by about $.23/ounce), while platinum rose by $17/ounce to finish at $953. As an aside, and for what it’s worth, gold’s arguable competitor – bitcoin – established a new high on Friday as well.
